Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled civic bodies in Delhi are set to be dissolved in the next five days, with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation's term set to end on Wednesday.
According to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, the mayor and the deputy mayor are to be elected in the very first session of the House after the civic polls.
A senior official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said the MCD had sent the proposal suggesting this date on Thursday.
If this happens, it will be an "unprecedented development" in the civic body's journey as budget is traditionally passed by a House, they said.
The municipal house of Delhi failed to elect a mayor for the third time in a month after ruckus erupted over the nominated members being allowed to vote in the election to the post.

The resident doctors at the North Delhi Municipal Corporation's 450-bedded Kasturba Hospital and Hindu Rao Hospital have claimed that they have not been paid salary since March. Many doctors and other staff have tested positive for COVID-19 till date at both hospitals.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed the chief secretary to recover Rs 97 crore from the Aam Aadmi Party for political advertisements it published in the guise of government advertisements, official sources said.
The recovery notice issued by the Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP) also includes the interest on the amount and makes it mandatory for the ruling party in Delhi to pay the whole amount within 10 days, the sources said.

The bench said that there are reports coming that many areas doctors are not being paid. "We saw report that doctors went on strike. In Delhi, some doctors have not been paid for past three months. These are concerns that should have been taken care off. It should not require court intervention."
